The Shift to cgroup v2 in Kubernetes
By BIOS Founding Team

cgroup v1 has been in maintenance mode since v1.31 and is deprecated. Since v1.35 the kubelet failCgroupV1 setting defaults to true, so the kubelet refuses to start on cgroup v1 nodes unless it is overridden with failCgroupV1: false.
Removal of the v1 fallback is tracked in KEP-5573, which says no earlier than 1.38. Operators should confirm their nodes report cgroup2fs and run kernel 5.8 or later.
